FROST, Gerald Elijah

Aged 18
No, 101840, Private, Gerard Elijah FROST

2nd Cavalry Division, Machine Gun Corps
Died of his Wounds on Wednesday, 20th November 1918

He appears to be Gerald Elijah FROST born 1899 in Sapiston (Thetford Q4-1899 4B:347), son of Elijah and Susanna FROST (née FENTON). His mother first married James TAYLOR (Thingoe Q2-1888), who seems to have died in Q2-1892. She then married Elijah FROST (Thingoe Q4-1894 4A:1311).

1901 census...Aged 1, he was at The Heath, Sapiston with his father Elijah FROST [48] farm labourer born Bardwell; his mother Susanna [39] born Whepstead; sisters Mary [12] born Hengrave, Maud [8] born Whepstead, Daisy [5] born Bardwell, Florence [4] born Bardwell and Kate [4 months] born Sapiston; brother Arthur [9] born Hengrave.

He married Daisy L BERRY (b. 22-11-1900) (Thetford Q2-1918) and she is named as sole legatee on the Register of Soldiers Effects.

1911 census...Aged 11, he was at Sapiston with his widowed mother; widowed grandmother Rebecca FENTON [73] born Whepstead; brother Arthur (now recorded correctly as TAYLOR); sisters Emma, Kate and Jessie [7] born Sapiston and brother Edward [5] born Sapiston. His father had died in 1907.

The pension card has his widow at Park Gates, Fakenham Magna with their daughter Lilian Kate (b. 10-9-1918), so it is very likely he never saw his daughter.

As he died of his wounds after the Armistice and is therefore not on "Soldiers Died", and no service records have been found, we don't know where he enlisted and there is no corroborative evidence as to civilian identity.
This man does however seem to be the most likely.
